In this article I am going to show you how to create a hosting account for your website domain name and how to change over your name servers.
I am going to assume that you have already purchased your domain name from another company and you will need to change over the name servers.
There are free hosting services available but I would not recommend them.
I started out with a free account and without warning it shut down - I lost all my website files and information and had to start all over again! I now use HostGator to host my websites.
It provides a reliable service and I have used their customer service many times and they have always been very quick at dealing with my questions.
Within minutes in fact! There are various plans on offer and I recommend starting with a baby hosting account because it allows you to host more than one domain on the server and it is likely that you will want to build other websites as your business grows.
For example you may want to build a dedicated website for any products you create.
When you purchase your hosting account you will be asked what domain name you want to register or if you currently have a domain name.
You need to enter your existing domain name that you have already purchased.
Once you have purchased your hosting account you will need to connect your domain to this server.
To make this connection you need to tell your domain registrar which name servers to point to at HostGator.
It might take a few minutes for the payment details to go through before you receive your confirmation email with your account details.
So be patient! Changing Name Servers Name servers are usually in the form: ns1.
hostgator.
com ns2.
hostgator.
com You will find this information on the email from HostGator along with your password and cpanel login.
I usually find that it takes a couple of hours for everything to go through and become 'live' but it can take up to 48 hours!
